There are two ways to view the sunrise from the highest point. If you climb Mount Apo, or if you ride on an airplane.
If you haven’t yet seen or experience a sunrise from above the clouds, take the first flight back to Davao before the break of dawn, which I love to do. It’s a breathtaking experience.
Here are images I took from the left aisle window of the Cebu Pacific plane last December. I used my handy point and shoot camera to capture the swift changes of colors in the sky, from muted blues to warm yellows, vivid reds and oranges, casting surreal rays over the highest peaks in the land.
Photos were captured between 5:30 a.m. to 6:17 a.m, by my Panasonic Lumix cam.
Here is the view of a cloudless Mount Apo in the morning, serving as a majestic background to the international airport.

And here is the old Davao airport, still beautiful in its lonely, abandoned state. I captured this shot a few years ago when we did a prenuptial shoot for their wedding. It just so happened the groom is a pilot, else it would be difficult to ask permit to access the interiors.
