  Team Carmen, Davao del Norte, Wins the 1st Int’l Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge (press release from DOT XI) April 30, 2011 marked a milestone in the lives of a team sponsored by the Local Government Unit of Carmen, Davao Del Norte as they were hailed champions of the 1st International Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge, taking home Php150,000 in cash prize. Members of the team include Jonathan Pido (Team Leader), Angelito Sibayan and Edwin Bueno (Logistics). There were 17 teams from all over the Philippines and 2 foreign teams from Indonesia and Australia who competed. Only 9 were able to make it to the finish line. The race is a 24-hour extreme adventure challenge from the heart of Sta. Cruz to the summit of Mount Apo via The Boulder Face through disciplines of mountain biking, trekking/bouldering, road running and water tubing. Bearing the advocacy “Save & Protect Mt. San Pedro Cathedral (Oldest Church in Davao)

San Pedro Cathedral (Oldest Church in Davao) San Pedro Cathedral is considered to be the oldest church in the city (or the site where remnants of the old structure was built), prominently located at the corner of San Pedro Street and C.M.Recto Avenue.  Named after Saint Peter, the patron saint, it was said to be built in 1847 by Don Jose Oyanguren, the Spanish conquistador who later become the first governor of Davao region. Sangguniang Panlungsod and Monument of Peace and Unity

LANDMARKS IN DAVAO The Sangguniang Panlungsod is the legislative Body of the city.  It enacts ordinances, approves resolutions and appropriates funds for the general welfare of the City and its constituents pursuant to Section 16 of the Local Government Code of 1991. It is located in San Pedro Street, fronting the San Pedro Cathedral. The Commemorative Monument of Peace and Unity with the Legislative Building in the background. “Unveiled during the celebration of the Philippine Centennial, the sculpture depicts the peaceful relationship of the migrant and indigenous inhabitants of Davao in the last 100 years.”       Tweet
