Davao City, Philippines, March 15, 2012 – PLDT, the leading telecommunications company, is aggressively building Wifi zones to turn the biggest city in the country into an expanding wifi hub by providing its myDSL and landline service subscribers unlimited wifi internet connection available in selected establishments across town.

The launch is right in time for the 75th Araw ng Dabaw founding anniversary.

Through PLDT WiFi Zone, PLDT landline and myDSL subscribers will have access to unlimited wifi internet connection as an add-on service in all PLDT WiFi Zones which include restaurants, malls, gas stations, bars, salons, PC shops, hospitals, and PLDT business offices, among others, situated across key cities in the country.

Just recently, several areas during Cebu’s Sinulog and Baguio’s Panagbenga Festival were successfully equipped with PLDT Wifi Zones which allowed guests and spectators wifi connection for the duration of the parade. It was also extended to allow more people to experience the outdoor high-speed connections.

Today, Araw ng Dabaw’s parade is expected to be crowded with eager spectators as well. Bloggers, photographers, media and tourists who want to post photos, videos, and share experiences online during the parade can avail of internet access using the wifi pins that will be distributed from PLDT booths along the parade routes (Roxas corner CM Recto, Corner Bonifacio and Rizal Park, People’s Park and Rizal Park). All they have to do is approach the reps manning the booths. Free wifi pins will be distributed until Sunday, March 18.

Apart from parade routes, high traffic areas and establishments already have the PLDT Wifi Zone – Pelayo, San Pedro, Damosa IT Park, City Triangle, Aldevinco, Davao City Hall, and Autoshop.

In Metro Manila, businesses that are already PLDT Wifi zones include select establishments of Yellow Cab Pizza, Burger King, Army Navy, Resorts World’s Republiq and Opus, Eastwood Mall, PC Express, Toyota Car dealers, Cardinal Santos Hospital, The Medical City, and PLDT Business Offices. Other businesses and commercial spots are also in talks to become PLDT Wifi Zones.

“This new service is like an extension of our subscribers’ internet connection at home. Now they can experience premium WiFi service like no other outside their home,” said PLDT VP for myDSL Retail Business Group Gary Dujali.

“Users just need to look for the WiFi Zone logo in select establishments to experience high-speed connection from a PLDT Wifi Zone.”

The PLDT partner establishments will get a boost of up to 100Mbps, a guaranteed premium and reliable wifi connection. This is powered and backed up by a dedicated broadband connection which users can have unlimited access to.

“So far, we’re also working on expanding this service to our PLDT subscribers in key provincial cities all over the country,” adds Dujali.

After the free period, subscribers who would like to continue using the wifi service will just have to add Php 150 for DSL subscribers and Php 300 for PLDT landline subscribers to their monthly subscription to get the unique Wifi pin. The Wifi pins allow subscribers access to more than 3,000 PLDT Wifi Zones nationwide expecting to reach and expand to more areas soon.
