DAVAO CITY—SM Malls owned by the Sy-led company plans to open its second mall here, and SM’s first luxury shopping center in Mindanao, at the end of the month.
The SM Lanang Premier would be SM Prime’s biggest and first-of-its-kind premier mall development project in Mindanao, offering convention and hotel amenities to this city that has become the nation’s favorite convention venue during the last decade.
To open its doors on September 28, the SM Lanang Premier would house the first in Mindanao state-of-the-art amenities such as the IMAX Theater, SM Center Stage, and the Skygarden. Also making a landmark is the country’s longest dancing fountain with a 122-meter stretch of water jets, an SM statement said.
Opening shortly also would be SM Bowling Center and the Science Discovery Center.
It would have a floor area of 144,002 square meters and sprawls on a 100,000-sq.m. lot with an origami-inspired structure.
The mall would still have the SM mall mainstays: SM Department Store, SM Supermarket, Watsons, Ace Hardware, and other major SM retail affiliates that were the first to open their stores here when the first SM City began operation 10 years ago.
Also to open their first store in Mindanao would be the Our Home and Kultura, and the American chain of trendy clothing and accessory retailer Forever21.
An addition to the city’s need for a modern convention facility, the SM Lanang Premier would also have “no less than the Davao SMX Convention Center” on its third floor.
To complement the facility, it said, the Park Inn Hotel by Radisson would also be operational by 2013, in time for the holding of Asia’s main travel and tour conference called MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conferences and Events).
The hotel building is located in the compound and offers convenient access to the mall through a bridgeway.
“SM Lanang Premier promises to bring to Davao a definitive shopping experience of a premier SM mall offering luxury within reach with its choice retail brands and dining concepts,” the SM statement said. “It’s world-class entertainment and convention facilities would raise the bar in the malling league not only in Davao City but to the rest of the region as well.”
The SM Lanang Premier would the fourth SM Mall in Mindanao.
