The new state of the art museum built by Davao Oriental Provincial Governor Cora Malanyaon, Subangan Davao Oriental Provincial Museum, opens to the public on January 8, 2014 in the Provincial Tourism Complex, Mati City.

Subangan will showcase a fascinating cultural heritage and rich ecosystem of the province. It is also home to DAVOR, the sperm whale that first beached on the shores of Gov. Generoso on June 2010, and was given such an affectionate name by Governor Cora.

A memorial and a symbol of the rich biodiversity of our seas, the gentle giant was approximately 53 feet in length, the 7th in terms of size in the World List (the largest on record is 59 feet and died in 1937).

Truly an animal of extremes, this amazing cetacean has the largest brain and the longest intestine on the planet. DAVOR’s immense skeletal display which took years to assemble and transport (almost complete except for the teeth, one fin and an eardrum) has finally found a resting place in Subangan.
