Allow me to share with our alumni and friends in the Davao City area information about tomorrow’s event called National Day Towards Healing for Peace and Unity.
Atty. Romeo I. Cabarde Jr. (AB’99 LLB 2003), AdDU University Community Engagement and Advocacy Council (UCEAC) chairperson informs us that tomorrow’s activities are part of the ALL-OUT PEACE campaign, a nationally coordinated campaign, calling for truth, justice and peace. The activities below are coordinated with various lead organizations such as Brahma Kumaris, Davao Campaign Coordinating Committee, Mindanao Peoples’ Caucus, Alternate Forum for Research in Mindanao (AFRIM), I-Emergence, Integrated Gender Development Division – City Mayor’s Office, AdDU Samahan, Forum ZFD, Davao Bikers and Davao Artists.
For more information, please call the UCEAC at Tel. 221-2411 loc. 8262 and look for Mr. Dadong Gumatao (BEEd 2009).
I also wish to share with you some details of the on-going TABANG MAGUINDANAO for the displaced families in Maguindanao.
From the article of our AdDU President, Fr. Joel E. Tabora S.J. “Imagine: 31,400 people now displaced in Maguindanao” (https://taborasj.wordpress.com/) :
“Imagine the suffering of a family that is displaced from a home due to the warring of others. All the family wishes for is to live in peace. Then armed forces from elsewhere, usually from the north, engage various armed forces around. That means the family cannot work in the fields. That means the family cannot find food. That means the family must flee the horror and dangers of others warring in order to find safety. The baby is crying and hungry. Lola is weak and sick. Yet there is need to flee.
“It is difficult to imagine just one family suffering. One’s imagination is blocked by Manila traffic. It goes no further that the latest MRT bogged down for lack of spare parts.
“Today there are 5,721 families – some 31,400 persons – who have been displaced from their homes in Maguindanao due to aerial strikes and ground attacks against the BIFF.
“Imagine the suffering. Imagine it yourselves. It doesn’t go away by turning off the TV. It doesn’t go away. Think about it. And pray.”
Let us continue to pray for a just and lasting peace in Mindanao and in the rest of our country. God bless us all.
