In talks with other DepEd branches in key cities around the country
Students in Davao will have more ways to learn their lessons at home when
classes open in October as SKY and the Department of Education partner for
the airing of government-developed educational video materials.
The partnership is SKY’s response to the National Telecommunications
Commission and the Office of the Undersecretary for Administration’s call to
cable and broadcast operators to support the DepEd by offering airtime or a
channel for the government’s distance education program.
Under the agreement, SKY will dedicate a channel which will air a total of 80
hours of lessons per week with each grade level allotted an hour of lessons
per day.
The company is also in continuous talks with the Department of Education
for other potential beneficiary cities around the country.
“Children’s education should not be sacrificed, specially during an
unprecedented time such as this. Sky Cable is pleased to partner with the
Department of Education and Local Governments to provide access to
education allowing children to learn from their homes through Cable
Television,” Antonio Ventosa, Sky Cable president and chief operating officer
said.
SKYcable Davao and the Department of Education will announce more
details in the coming weeks regarding airing schedules and lessons for
specific grade levels that are covered in the curriculum. /pr
