Tejano, Published in the Sun.Star Davao newspaper on August 21, 2011 DAVAO CITY – More or less 6,000 people coming from various towns and cities of Mindanao and tourists flocked to Davao City Saturday to witness the Indak-indak sa Kadalanan, a street dance competition. Police said all sides of the city streets were filled with people to witness and cheer their favored contingents joining the Indak-indak sa Kadalanan competition. At least 23 contingents in the Indak-indak sa Kadalanan performed in front of the judges, Dabawenyos Local and foreign guests were very pleased to have witnessed such a festive way of showing indigenous traditions through dances. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte officially opened the competition by welcoming all Dabawenyos and visitors who came to witness the event. This time, the Indak Indak judging area has a new “arena” for everyone to watch the performance. New bleachers, new risers, new stage. Cebu Daily News features an 8-page Kadayawan Weekend Special supplement today, August 19, 2011. Copies are available in the Inquirer Office of Davao. It will be distributed in hotels, schools, offices, and coffee shops for free.  Article and photos by me and  Rhonson Ng (including cover photo), and notes by Leslee Morales. City offers E-Trike Free Ride

  City offers E-Trike Free Ride Photos by William Pedraza The City Tourism Operations Office is initiating an “E-Trike Free Ride” around downtown areas in line with the Kadayawan festivities. The vehicle is a battery-operated motorcycle with a capacity of six passengers, which will shuttle people to and from particular destinations in the city during the Kadayawan Festival only.  Around 20 units will be roaming around as services to the public. Routes will start at Museo Dabawenyo passing through C.M. Recto, Roxas Avenue, Ponciano St., San Pedro St., Bolton St., Magallanes St., and back to the origin. Davao’s new punch line

DAVAO’S NEW PUNCH LINE Davao City has a new treat for visitors as soon as they arrive in the airport. From August 11 down to August 21, tourists will be treated to the Davao Punch, a new concoction of non-alcoholic drink with a combination of guava, calamansi and pomelo, which was created by a chef of Center for Culinary Studies Davao (CACS Davao). This new fruit mix was created in line with the city’s campaign published in selected national dailies which highlights the bountiful harvest of fruits and flora during the month of August, hence its celebration of Kadayawan Festival. It also showcases ten of the most vibrant tribes in the city with a tagline of Ten Tribes, One Vibe. In a full page ad, a young lass in colorful authentic tribal costume holds a drink in her hand with the caption: “FLY TO DAVAO AND WE WILL WELCOME YOU WITH A GOOD PUNCH. At the Davao International Airport, experience our welcome drink, DAVAO PUNCH, a concoction especially made for the guests of Davao City.” …
